Halogen-free flame retardant characteristics of ammonium polyphosphate

Ammonium polyphosphate halogen-free flame retardants have the following characteristics:

Non-toxic and odorless, with good environmental friendliness: Ammonium polyphosphate is non-toxic and odorless, does not produce corrosive gases, and meets environmental protection requirements. It is a safe and highly efficient phosphorus-based non-halogen smoke retardant.

High thermal stability: Ammonium polyphosphate has a high thermal stability, with a decomposition temperature above 250℃, and even the decomposition temperature of some products exceeds 275℃. It can maintain stable performance in high-temperature environments and is suitable for scenarios that require high-temperature resistance.

Low hygroscopicity: Its water solubility and hygroscopicity decrease as the degree of polymerization increases. Ammonium polyphosphate with a high degree of polymerization has low hygroscopicity and is not prone to moisture absorption, which is conducive to maintaining the stability of flame retardant performance.

High phosphorus and nitrogen content, excellent flame retardancy: Ammonium polyphosphate has a high phosphorus and nitrogen content. The phosphorus-nitrogen system produces a synergistic effect, resulting in excellent flame retardancy. When burning, it can generate polyphosphoric acid dehydrating agent, which promotes the dehydration of organic matter on the surface to form carbides. At the same time, the non-volatile phosphorus oxides and polyphosphoric acid produced cover the surface of the substrate, isolating it from air and thus achieving the purpose of flame retardancy.

Low smoke generation: During combustion, the smoke generation is extremely low, and no hydrogen halides are produced. This can effectively reduce the generation of smoke and toxic gases in fires, enhancing the safety of personnel evacuation and rescue.

Good dispersibility: With a low relative density and excellent dispersibility, it is easy to disperse in substrates such as polyols, facilitating its mixing with other materials and enhancing the flame retardant effect.

Good chemical stability: It has excellent chemical stability, can be well compatible with other materials, is not prone to chemical reactions, and ensures the stability of the flame retardant system.

Good smoke suppression effect: In addition to being flame-retardant, it can also effectively reduce the smoke produced during combustion and enhance the fire safety of materials.

Low toxicity: Low toxicity, acute oral poisoning data (rat) LD50>10g/kg, extremely safe for production and use.

Ammonium polyphosphate has an intumescent flame retardant function, which is more conducive to smoke reduction and anti-dripping, and improves the flame retardant performance of the material.
