At present, there are several common methods to improve the wear resistance of plastics:
1. Use suitable toughening resins.
In hybrid TPO, POE, EPDM, and TPV (EPDM/PP) are usually used to toughen PP. The addition of elastomers leads to a decrease in scratch resistance. Therefore, it is very important to choose a suitable elastomer. Usually, the comparison of scratch resistance between them is as follows: TPV> EPDM> POE
2. Use suitable fillers
1) Talc is a relatively common filler. It is necessary to choose a suitable coupling agent and a suitable mesh size.
2) At present, the application of wollastonite has been extended from engineering plastics to thermoplastic elastomers. Adding wollastonite can improve the temperature resistance, compression deformation, and scratch resistance of thermoplastic elastomers.
3) Nanomaterials, such as white carbon black, can improve the compression deformation, wear resistance, and scratch resistance of elastomer materials, but choosing a suitable mixing process is very critical.
3. Choose the right additives
1) Silicone-based additives
can be made of ultra-high molecular weight siloxane polymer silicone powder or silicone masterbatch produced by Baozhuan New Materials . At present, silicon-based additives produced by China Baozhuan New Materials have also been widely used. Siloxane will not migrate to the surface due to its high molecular weight, thus producing very good and long-term wear and scratch resistance.
2) Fluorine additives (PPA)
This type of additive is colorless, odorless, and inert. It can improve the melt fluidity and demoulding performance of the polymer, accelerate the extrusion rate, and more importantly, it can improve the scratch resistance and wear resistance.
3) Slip agents
oleamide ER and erucamide VRX, when they are added to thermoplastics, will migrate to the surface of the polymer product or frost and whiten, producing a wax layer, reducing the friction coefficient and also reducing the visibility of scratches. The disadvantage is that it is not a real “dry” and cannot improve the stickiness of the surface.
